The Life Development Center (LDC)

The life development center (LDC) was founded in March 1994 by Mr. Manop Yangja in order to help vulnerable tribal laborers who were working in Chiang Mai city and the surrounding areas. During that time, the Thai economy was booming along with the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Therefore, many tribal people, mostly young one with limited education migrated to Chiang Mai city for seeking better employment and development opportunities. Because of the limitation of education and work skill imposed them to work in dangerous works place as defined “hard work, low pay and high risk jobs” – bars, gas station, restaurants, construction, and sex commercial. Many of them contracted HIV/AIDS and other sexual transmitted diseases (STDs)

The life development center was established with the mission of helping these vulnerable people by providing HIV/AIDS and illicit drugs prevention, care training and counseling programs to prevent them from the diseases.

The life development center is registered to the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security as a non-profit/public interest organization, and has been serving civil society as a humanitarian organization for over three decades now.

The first decade 1994-2003 we focused on HIV/AIDS and illicit drugs prevention and care projects, second decade 2004-2013 we focused on community development and empowerment projects, and the third decade 2014-present we are focusing on promoting and supporting sustainable development projects.
